I just wanted to drop you an email to say what amazing food we had last night!
The hake with the Coppa was just delightful and the dessert of strawberry cheesecake was the most amazing sweet treat I have ever had! The crumbled shortbread infused with ginger that the ice cream sat on was just one of the most tasty things ever! What lovely presentation, what bloody lovely tastes, thank you, it was a meal that I will never forget!
I have worked in the food business for 20 years now and think that when something is that great its good to pass the comment on so that the chef can share the enjoyment that he created! Regards Tracy
Our Wedding Reception
At first we walked in and thought it was just a pub with a really pricey pub food, oh how were we wrong, I had the Sirloin steak, rare which was cooked perfectly, and with the added bonus of hand cut chips, my other half had the fish option which she rated 9/10..
Its all locally grown produce which was grown on there own farm,
I would recommend going to this restaurant for the lovely food snd great atmosphere…
What a fab place the food is great and Matt and Michelle are fantastic hosts, we had our wedding reception there this week and everything was absolutely spot on, the 3 course wedding dinner was delicious, the asmosphere was amazing and everyone had a really great time. I would highly recommend this Inn to anyone for a wedding reception, party or just for a great meal out. The lunches there are excellent as well.
My husband and I were staying in Rosudgeon for Jubilee week, food at the Falmouth Packet Inn was fantastic, the menu was varied, not your usual pub food, it was definately good value for money . Our compliments to the chef and the staff.
Wonderful Food and Great Staff
We found this pub when the Olympic Torch started its tour of the UK. Rosudgeon is not far from where my wife and I live. On that particular day the Landlord had opened his doors at 0800hrs and was doing a roaring trade in breakfasts!
We had had ours at home but I was “forced” into trying a pint of the local ale at 0850hrs!! Well, it had to be done.
Went back at lunchtime and had a fabulous meal with my grand daughter and her friend.. It was the lunchtime menu and me and the girls had gammon egg and chips and my wife had fish and chips with mushy peas.
The gammon steak’s were huge, this was topped with not one, but two eggs, a good portion of homemade chunky chips plus a small green salad.
My wife referred to the cod as a baby whale! No, it wasn’t a small fish in a load of batter, it was a large fish! Again, homemade chunky chips and the small green salad. The mushy peas had been home made, they had not come out of tin and they weren’t in that horrible illuminous green sauce. I tried some and they where lovely.
I know I have been referring to the “small green salad” but It was the correct size for this meal believe me. We all have a very good appetites and all of us were full. In fact the girls actually left some of the chips!!
The beer at the pub is a local Falmouth brew which is excellent.
Finally, the staff. Very friendly, very helpful, nothing was too much trouble.
Will now be trying the evening menu very soon.
Another Great Visit
This was our second visit and again we could not fault the food and service. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and dessert divine. Special dessert was Saffron bread and butter pudding, OMG!! Can’t wait for the next visit!!
Great Above Average Pub
We had a Sunday lunch here and were very impressed. Good value, good portions with plenty of vegetables and excellent quality. The chef obviously knows what he’s doing.
My husband was very impressed with his pint of guinness too – makes all the difference when the beer’s good!
We will be trying it out one evening in the not too distant future.
Loved Everything About it
My family have eaten at the Falmouth Packet a few times recently and whilst I was visiting them they wanted to share their new “find”! I am so glad they did. We went for lunch and were all hugely impressed by the quality of the food on offer – the sandwiches are freshly prepared, using really good quality ingredients and fabulous, the addition of some sweet pickled onions and a dish of gherkins is a really great touch that shows the owners are wanting to do something over and above what customers are expecting, my Dad’s ham, egg and chips was simple food, cooked to perfection using the best ingredients – couldn’t be bettered. The pub itself has been refurbished and is light, contemporary and comfortable. The wine and beer on offer were good and the service first class. Because of a problem with a dinner booking elsewhere we descended on the Falmouth Packet again later in the week, at very short notice, as a party of nine when they were already very busy. When we called to see if they could fit us in they said they could but that the service would be slow which really impressed me, the fact that they were prepared to make it quite clear that this would be the case and risk losing a large booking, rather than disappoint, is extremely professional. We were a family party and had all the time in the world and wanted to enjoy a rare evening together so the fact that we didn’t receive our main course within seconds of our starters being cleared was great to be honest and even then the wait was not considerable. The food again was outstanding with 3 starving teens and 2 vegetarians in our party it speaks volumes that everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Again service was top notch – I get the feeling the business is family run, it certainly has that feel, it’s very welcoming. I used to love the Packet when I drank there as a teen, but I love it even more in its new incarnation 25 years later and only wish I lived near enough to eat there more often.
Don’t Drive Past
It doesnt look much from outside, you may be fooled into thinking its your average pub. But drive in, get out of your car and head to the bar. Even if the bar is busy, the staff still welcome you the same they do everyone. Lovely staff. Beautifully decorated and thought of inside. Menu is small, but they do have specials – so dont be disheartened in going back again and again! The specials are there for a reason! The menu, although small, is just what you need! It’s fantastic quality, tastes fresh and not piled on your plate!
Please dont leave without having a pudding. They are FAB!
The only thing that would be great in the evenings is to have a more interesting dinner menu, but dont get me wrong, there’s still a good choice to choose from, which will leave u just as impressed!
There is outside seating too – so when its sunny, you dont have to be cooped up inside!
Go try, your missing out if not!
Great Sunday Lunch
I am not a great one for eating Sunday lunches out, but last year while coming back from Penzance to the Lizard we decided to stop at this pub. It was busy and we had the last table in the conservatory. I have to say it was one of the best Sunday lunches I have eaten out! Had roast beef with huge yorkshire puds, well cooked veg served in little bowls including cauliflower cheese, and proper gravy. On our holiday this year we decided we would try it again for Sunday lunch and it was just as good. The beef was beautiful, tender and tasty. I think this is going to be a regular visit on our trips to Cornwall!
Lovely Main Course
Visited in January and came out stuffed. If I was to go again I would probably not have a starter as this was a main meal in itself! Would recommend to any one who wants a good feed!
We have been to the Falmouth Packet four times since last summer & each time the food & service have been really good. Portions are good, well presented & well served. If I had one wish it would be a more comprehensive & less pub orientated wine list. Bravo!!
Good food, friendly staff and excellent self-catering
We stayed in the adjacent self-catering cottage which was very comfortable and good value. We hadn’t booked a table on the night we arrived but they made a big effort to fit us in and the food, service, friendliness of staff and the atmosphere were all 1st class. The dining area was packed and we got the impression most were regulars which is a good sign. Would definitely recommend.
The outside of this place would not necessarily catch your eye as you drive past, but it it worth a stop. Nice atmosphere and stunning food!
A Real Mary Poppins Find Practically Perfect In Every Way !
From the moment we walked through the door we were looked after.
The Bar man was busy but acknowledged us and very quickly sorted us out with a drink . The food was amazing and am sure it tasted even better due to the fab service we had by the two lovely ladies who took such good care of us . This family run restaurant is a real gem and we can honestly say that we haven’t felt so comfortable eating in a restaurant in a long time, the norm these days seem to be that the establishments are doing you a favour by allowing you to eat there !! All our food was cooked to perfection. We were served local food cooked and served well and definately felt it was value for money . So glad we have found somewhere where we can dine with Family and friends in the knowledge that we are in for a real treat in the company of true professionals that really have nailed it. Well done to you all we look forward to eating at your lovely pub/restaurant very soon Gary & Tracey
Amazing food – would definitely return
After a long drive down to Cornwall, this was the pub that we ended up in for some dinner. Initially we were only the second couple in the pub, but our concerns of a lack of atmosphere soon melted away as within an hour it was full of diners who had pre-booked.
We ordered our starters from the specials board which was garlic mushrooms & prawns in a creamy sauce on thick home made bread. It was absolutely divine and we both commented on how it could potentially be the best starter we have ever eaten – our hunger after a five hour drive probably helped it taste good!
I then ate the Surf & Turf which was an 8oz Rib-eye steak, topped with Cornish Scallops and Tiger Prawns in a garlic butter. It also came with a dish of chunky chips and was a challenge to fish – a good hearty portion! At £20.50, it’s certainly not the cheapest dish on the menu, but was absolutely delicious.
The service was good and the staff were attentive but let diners have their own privacy while eating.
A car is necessary to get to the slightly awkwardly positioned pub, but it’s well worth it – after tasting this menu, you won’t mind not being able to drink if you’re the designated driver.
Best food in Penzance and lovely atmosphere
On recommendation just taken friends from Isle of Man and family for dinner and had the best cooked food everrrrr. Jazz band wasn’t bad either. The evening was most enjoyable, I would highly recommend the Falmouth Packet for good food, service and lovely atmosphere. I live locally and will take all my friends there. Thank you Falmouth Packet for making our evening very special. Sue xx
I ate here with my husband in October and had an excellent meal and had returned hoping for the menu we had in October. This time I went with mother in law, daughter and a friend from Cornwall. The menu was different but not disappointing. The steaks were excellent, as was the Christmas dinner. The atmosphere was also nice with attentive staff. All in all a lovely experience and my friend from Cornwall will be visiting again soon.
A good typical Cornish Pub – Steaks are Amazing
Myself and my partner are locals to this pub and visit often. We decided to go out with good friends at the last minute. They were and always are very accommodating, managed to fit us in a already full restaurant, the food was beautiful, the steak was succulent and tasty!! One word for me… amazing. I had a surf and turf AGAIN, because the beautiful cooked scallops and tiger prawns just set it off. The staff are friendly and efficient which is all you can ask for in an establishment. The Falmouth packet offers a friendly, inviting relaxed pub, of course it has locals whom come and see there friends and have a drink also, but that creates a CORNISH PUB ATMOSPHERE! Not always do you want a restaurant or fine dining experience, but the option of a friendly relaxing environment, beautiful food, good value for money, comfort and the freedom to sit and enjoy a glass of wine, or a pint in the boys case, of which they offer good LOCALLY made ale. Pub like these are on the downfall and this is a gem that will stay.
Excellent could not fault it
Just had an evening out with friends..we all had the surf and turf which i can only describe as suberb! service was great and it was lovely to have the chef come out to see us..I wish we had room for desert as they looked fantastic..we will definitely return to try something else on the menu!
Lovely Sunday Roast
We had eaten in The Falmouth Packet earlier on in the year and loved it, so went in for a Sunday roast it was great. I had the beef and my wife and daughter had the pork, both were tender and the veg were cooked fresh and not reheated. The sweets were very taisty and my cheese plate was full of local cheeses. The staff were very friendly and we will be back.
A delicious, relaxing cornish inn”
Wow, What a find! This place is what cornwalls all about!
Just had a wonderful night out at the Falmouth Packet, great food, friendly efficient service, its exactly the kind of place i think all city slickers wish was their local. My girlfriend and i had all 3 courses and wished we could have sampled more, will definatly have to make a return visit, the handsome bar man helped aswell of course.
A warm, welcoming, friendly family pub/restaurant offering quality food and considerate service.
Having booked a table for a family celebration, which was celebrating two birthdays, at a venue I hadn’t previously visited, it was a pleasure in these difficult times to see a local pub doing such roaring trade. Especially when the nearest pub was closed!
The Bar was full and the restaurant also. Food was of an excellent quality and a reasonable price. Mention was made that we were celebrating two birthdays before all our guests were gathered and we were amazed that shortly after their arrival our hostess arrived with a card for each party! A really nice gesture, which shows that they really value their customers. We will be returning soon! keep up the good work
Amazing these guys deserve industry recognition”
Had probably the best 3 course meal ever and i have eaten in some very good places. Food was amazing and the service was exceptional. The owners and staff were brilliant. The table next to us were celebrating a birthday and were given some lovely flowers and a card, very nice touch. Will definately be back.
The food was amazing, all local produce cooked fresh to order and to perfection. The service was also excellant and despite being extremely busy as it is so popular, the waitress was attentive, warm and friendly. This had to be one of the best places in Cornwall i have eaten out in, and would recommend that everyone visit.
Good Food Good Value
We live not far from the Falmouth Packet and have enjoyed some delicious meals there. The atmosphere is good, the food is delicious and they use local produce. They have a ‘specials’ board with some interesting dishes and their cheesecakes are lovely!! I
I would recommend this restaurant but book as it’s usually busy.
The food, drink and service here is lovely!
It is run by local people and they supply their own local produce from their farm and local brewery supplying local ales.
I have had one of the best 3 course meals I have ever had here and would thoroughly recommend giving it a try.”
“Great Sunday lunch with delicious beef. Good value for money and friendly landlord and landlady”.
